I love women who can emote and use their face and body to let you know exactly what they’re saying before they ever say a single word. Those kinds of women have ‘attitude’ and I am always looking for them so I can photograph them or paint them from life. I believe women are generally much more expressive than men. Sometimes I refer to them as my ‘bitches’ (it takes one to know one) because you have to have a certain bitchiness in order not to be afraid to express yourself that blatantly! When I see these women somewhere such as a coffee shop, a bar, downtown shopping, etc, I will photograph them without them seeing me. I’ll chase them for blocks sometimes. Eventually I ask permission to photograph them, but would prefer to get candid shots because as soon as you ask permission, they may stiffen up or say no or even worse - give you permission to take their photo then start smiling and posing for the camera. Not what I want! I want a woman who is not self-conscious, doesn’t need to ‘smile pretty’, and who knows how to turn up the attitude for the camera.

I can say all I need to say as an artist by painting the face of a woman. There must be infinite color combinations just to paint the different skin tones. The human form is the hardest thing to paint well and by getting better mastering this skill, I feel fulfilled and excited to be painting.

Come back to my website at least once a month, and my blog more often, to see who else I painted.
I promise not to stay away so long ever again.
